OVERVIEW

PERSONALITY
To say have Steve Rogers life didn’t start off easy would be assuming that is live now is easy, Which it is not. He with a sickly child, always being charged unless physical appearance rather than what was on the inside. On paper, there was absolutely no way Steve should’ve been in the military but his childhood Hail Mary are what gave him a backbone to fight for what he wants. Steve is a fighter through and through. He sticks to his principles of what is right and what is wrong he strives to achieve goals. Steve is a bit too headstrong for his own good, but it is those qualities that but him on Abraham Erksine’s radar as a candidate for Project Rebirth. Steve refused to give up on his dream of enlisting and that is how he fell onto Erksine’s radar. Despite the fact that Steve is honest to a fault, lying in order to enlist didn’t seem that bad in Steve’s mind. He felt that he deserved the chance to give his life for the cause just as much as the next guy.

Steve’s stubbornness and undefeatable will shapes most of his actions. He is a doer, if he sees something that needs to be done and he automatically does it regardless of if the situation puts him in physical danger, no matter what stands in the way, be it people or walls. He charges in without any thought to his own well-being. If there are people in danger, Steve sees it as his job to protect the underdog at all costs. Steve is an all in type of guy. He is the guy that takes the jobs no one wants without hesitation or debate. The instance that comes to mind is going off and rescuing the 157th without orders nor any backup. His obstinence drives him to be brave, standing up when others refuse to, standing up when he really should sit down. Steve has stated himself, many times that he doesn’t like bullies, and it doesn’t matter where they come from or what kind of uniform they wear. In his mind, someone has to be willing to shove back, and Steve is just that person. Steve manages to inspire both his fellow soldiers and Americans to rally together in desperate times. He motivates people with charm and charisma to be the best they can possibly be, even though the situation looks bleak

Steve’s high level of moral integrity strengthens his ability to lead. Others look to him for direction, and he carries the weight of that responsibility seriously and proudly. He is loyal to anyone that he calls a friend, almost to a fault, and it is a constant struggle for Steve to adjust to the differences around him.

Steve has always had trouble with women. As a small man who would get sick or hurt at the drop of the hat not many women were interested in him. He talks about standing on the sidelines constantly at dance halls because he was too afraid to talk to women because of his lack of coordination. He was content to sit on the side and watch his best friend go after them. Steve maintains this tongue tied nature even after the serum changes his physical appearance. He often has issues talking to Peggy in a romantic situation and gets flustered when women openly flirt with him during his USO tour. It's seen again when the female soldier comes onto him. Steve isn't sure how to take the attention and winds up cornered. He respects women a great deal and is constantly calling them ma'am despite if they're in the military or not. Men get the title of sir unless he's friends with them like the Howling Commandos.

The film The Winter Soldier, put a lot of Steve’s beliefs and core personality traits were put to the test. Steve is a man who up until this point would trust people blindly, unless given direct evidence otherwise. The thought never entered his mind that people were not who they seemed to be. The supreme belief in people that Steve once had, began to erode away and put a definite strain on the morality that sits as the foundation of Steve’s character. The world was changing and it was struggle for Steve to keep up. He continued to forge ahead with the same grit and determination he always had. Finding out that his best friend is alive and working for HYDRA, an organization that holds up the very ideals that Steve fights against, nearly breaks him. The one thing that Steve does not want to do is fight his best friend. That confrontation is the only fight that Steve ever backed down from, and in the end, his kind-hearted nature and love for his best friend, someone who stood with him till the end of the line, before he was Captain America is what finally broke the mold. Steve is virtually indestructible, but he has an obvious weakness for the people he cares for and those he calls friends.

Despite having a broad mistrust of the world since then, Steve rebuilds those barriers and strives to do what is right. Steve makes the hard choices, but in the face of adversity he shines through as someone to look up to. He’s willful, quick to adapt given the many times when he had no choice but to adapt. He rolls with almost any situation, almost wearing his adaptability like he does his patriotism. It is something that he is proud of, a uniform of sorts one could say.

In addition to the defining qualities mentioned above, Steve is also known to be incredibly polite and sincere and mostly patient. He is kind and thoughtful, without it appearing forced, and sometimes he wears those aspects of his personality on his sleeve. He is endearing in a way that might seem impossible for many. He is not your typical soldier, blindly following orders anymore. Remember, he is still a scrappy kid from Brooklyn, so he dishes out more sass than he probably should. Steve is not a pushover, and he makes that known without being an obvious jerk like Tony. Despite the lack of pop culture knowledge, Steve is one of the best men the world has known, and he tries to uphold that image despite many personal hardships.

Due to the events of Winter Soldier and AOU, Steve has grown a teeny bit reckless in his approach to securing any and all information on Bucky. He has made it clear that he disapproves of HYDRA’S use of human experimentation, despite being one himself, and he wants to make sure no one suffers the way that Bucky has. That could also be partly why he seems so protective of Wanda. His fighting style is a bit more controlled in TWS, it’s slowly gotten more loose over time and now resembles an all out brawl instead of the well choreographed finesse that Steve is more than capable of performing.

With the events of Civil War, it becomes clear that Steve carries even more weight on his shoulders. Two years have passed since the events of TWS and despite Sam’s help, they are no closer to finding Bucky. Steve feels personally responsible for this fact, though he is glad that his friend is alive and safe (he hopes). The world is still a strange place for Steve, and when said world puts into question the actions of the Avengers and whether or not they should be held accountable for their actions. Steve, is one of the few that points out that the Accords might not do what they intend for them to do and they may not be able to be where they are needed or being forced to go someplace they don’t want to go. Steve is adamant that the cost of a few lives is okay as long as the majority or saved. Once the UN is bombed during the signing of the Accords and the blame is placed on Bucky, all bets are off.

Bucky plays a huge and vital, conflicting, role in Steve’s ethical stance. First and foremost, in fact always, he will stand up for those that can’t stand up for themselves. It can be said that Bucky falls into that category, since the UN is on a manhunt to find him. There is a distinct difference between the two situations. While not signing a document that could potentially end his career but somehow continue to help others is a viable option, letting the governments of the world apprehend his best friend is not. Peggy’s death is the catalyst for the whole situation that Steve finds himself in. Bucky, is the last tie that Steve has to the time that he comes from. Steve is in essence a Man out of time, and that connection to his previous life is not one that he is willing to give up without a fight. The long and the short of it is, Steve stands up for what he believes in, but if someone he cares for is involved, he throws caution to the wind . He divides the Avengers by choosing Bucky’s side over everyone else’s. He fights Tony, and instead of checking on his friend to make sure he isn’t dead, he throws down his shield in favor of protecting Bucky.

Captain America makes up a large part of Steve’s identity, but that is not completely who he is. Steve Rogers is an infinitely just, kind and loyal person who stands up for the underdog. Steve is also too stubborn for his own good, and a bit (a lot) willful. He is far from perfect and he will make mistakes. Steve is the type of person to learn from his mistakes and spend whatever time he has left righting his wrongs.
